OTOKEA 500X500MM SKYLIGHT ROOF VENT. The OTOKEA skylight dome roof vent is an ideal accessory if your motorhome, camper van or horse box requires additional ventilation and light. It is an ideal product for venting small compact spaces and providing extra natural light to your area. Our roof vents are made from high grade impact and UV resistant materials. Supplied with blackout blinds and flynet screen if you would like privacy and protection from insects. Sizes quoted are approximates please see exact sizes below in specification. Place the internal cap (garnish) on top the roof and draw a template using a felt tip, then add another 5mm to the top and left side. Drill pilot holes in each corner and cut along the template line. Be certain to avoid ribs, braces, and electrical wiring (internally). Check that the internal cap fits through the aperture If not, cut out opening as needed and then smooth down any rough edges and primer the exposed with metal oxide paint. Make a wooden frame around the aperture to the thickness of the interned finish depth required, taking in to account the roof ply and lining. Glue the frame with Shield Stick and Seal (polyurethane) and clap in place and allow the adhesive to set. Screw the internal cap to the timber frame and seal around the lip from the top of the roof using flexible putty or Sikaflex. Place the external vent over the lip of the internal cap and mark the screw holes with a centre punch. Then remove vent from roof and drill all screw hole locations with a 1/16” pilot hole, and seal with primer paint. NOTE: If installing a power or lighted vent, provide power source of 12 volts DC, using 18-gauge wire. Place putty strips/ Sikaflex flex bead around the opening on roof ½” (1.27cm) from edge of opening. Be sure putty strips cover entire area to be sealed. Use double layers of putty strip or extra Sikaflex if necessary, to seal ribbed areas. Insert vent into opening on top of putty strips. Use an screwdriver or nail to locate and line up corner drilled holes with the corner screw holes in vent frame. CAUTION: Install vent with lid hinge side toward front of vehicle. Screw corner screws first to hold vent in place then screw all remaining vent mounting screws. Tighten just enough to compress putty tape. Over-tightening may cause Plastic Base Vents to crack. Using the appropriate roof coating for your roof surface, coat screw heads and vent frame edge and seal around the frame if necessary. Your installation is complete If you are retrospectively fitting the roof vent you must take care when cutting the aperture as not to damage the existing head lining and leave enough to cover the timber frame if required. For standard units the top pane would have a black 100mm overhang all around on the top pane. This would make the overall size of the top pane 1200mm by 1200mm in this example. PLEASE NOTE SIZES IN THIS PARAGRAPH ARE FOR GUIDANCE ONLY. The Stepped IGU supplied can be installed directly on the Upstand supported by a anodized aluminium angle trim all around. Apply adequate compatible low modulus silicone as per silicone suppliers data sheet to the top of the Upstand firmly placing the stepped unit onto the upstand. Pressure should be applied all around the 100mm overhang to ensure the silicone spreads and seals any gaps and then finish off the silicone all around. Once cured apply structural silicone as per suppliers data sheet to the bottom support frame flat surfaces firmly fitting it in place. Excess silicone should then be wiped away with a finishing tool. Sealants compatible with the top of the upstand, support frame, glass and the stepped unit primary sealant should be used. Some sealant suppliers may require primer to be applied to surfaces. Please note all Stepped Units are made to order and sizes cannot be changed once glass is cut or toughened. We recommend the speciation, sizes and instructions are reviewed and understood by the installer before proceeding with and order. The rooflight Stepped Insulated Glazed Units (IGUs) we supply are suitable for single storey flat roof extensions to existing residential dwellings. As each project can vary with requirements, we suggest confirming building regulation requirements for the product with the architect, builder or building officer prior to placing an order to ensure compliance. The installer should undertake a risk assessment. For example, it may need to be obscure, triple glazed, bigger upstand, suitable for walking on, laminated glass, etc. The upstand, bottom angle trim and silicone is not supplied, the builder or roofer should supply this.
