For a limited time we are offering a free upgrade to our new design rooflights that incorporate 9.2mm laminated glass on the inside pane. This high secruity, high safety glass is 47.2mm thick in total. We have upgraded our stock to laminated glass to meet the new building regulations that come in to affect soon. BUILDING REGULATIONS – Important information. All rooflights, regardless must comply with the requirements of Building Regulations, and relevant safety regulations. Rooflights for a domestic extension. Should normally have a. Inner pane to prevent risk of shattering and falling into a room. Normally requiring the inner pane to be at least 8mm laminated glass. When used horizontally, glass panes should be thicker as they are under far greater stress, and also the inner pane of a. Should always be laminated because of the risk that toughened glass poses of shattering and falling into the room beneath, which would be quite dangerous with a large pane. LOOK AT THE 3RD PICTURE WHICH SHOWS HOW BROKEN LAMINATED GLASS HOLDS TOGETHER ONCE BROKEN & DOES NOT SHATTER LIKE. Our Triple Glazed with 9.2mm LAMINATED GLASS skylights are preferred. Skylights are typically available as laminated glass skylights or tempered glass skylights. We recommend laminated glass skylights in all instances and they are even required per building code for certain out of reach applications. The reason laminated glass skylights are preferred is because they provide a greater level of safety to persons and property beneath. When a tempered glass skylight breaks, the glass shatters into small pieces which can then fall down into your home. These small falling pieces of tempered glass will potentially damage / harm anything below; including persons, pets, furniture, and flooring. Not to mention that when a tempered glass skylight breaks, there is no longer a glass pane in the skylight to protect the interior of your home from the exterior elements. When a laminated glass skylight breaks, the glass is designed to remain intact. So, the small shattered pieces of glass will not come cascading down into the interior of your home. And the laminated glass pane will remain in the frame of the skylight, continuing to provide some protection from the exterior elements. In addition, the inter layer also acts as a UV filter, deflecting as much of the sun? S rays as possible, helping to maintain comfortable indoor temperatures. In terms of durability and safety in the home, laminated glazing offers increased security for any rooflight as it becomes progressively harder to break through the glass even when it has been broken. Ve already stated, laminated glass is one of the best ways to combat UV rays, but it? S also highly effective against solar gain for interiors too; especially when combined with a solar control glazing coating. This means that the laminated inner panes of the skylight allow visible light to pass through into living space below whilst absorbing and deflecting the vast majorityof the UV transmittance. Another huge benefit of laminated glazing is its ability to reduce the impact of external noise within interiors. It is significantly more effective at minimizing external noise pollution than a standard Triple-pane glass skylight and even more so than a Double–pane glass skylight. When in place it will drastically increase heat and noise insulation. We use a rebated timber kerb, achieving better thermal qualities, which is then fully encapsulated by your choice of roof covering, which gives the effect of the visible outside glass? Internally it will be covered by your plasterboard reveal, so no framework can be seen. The Fixed rooflight is designed in such away so that unlike most rooflights that have an aluminium kerb it has no joints anywhere just a seamless piece of glass so we can 100% Guarantee they will not leak EVER! How Self-Cleaning Glass Works. We recommend when installing your rooflight it is fitted with a slight fall to aid water to run off the glass (For units 1000mm x1000mm and smaller set the roof light at an angle of 25mm for every 1000mm Run For rooflights over 1000mm set the roof light at an angle of 40mm for every 1000mm Run). After installation the special coating needs 5 – 7 days exposure to daylight to activate fully. External window cleaning and maintenance has been simplified by the abundance of glass cleaning agents on the market. However, these glass cleaning agents still require sufficient elbow grease to get your windows looking great – and can’t even begin to rival the ease and effectiveness of self-cleaning glass. A Two Step Cleaning Process After years of development, it is the world’s first self-cleaning glass to use a microscopic coating with a unique dual-action. The first stage of the cleaning process is “photocatalytic”. In this stage the coating reacts with daylight to break down organic dirt. The second stage is “hydrophilic”. Here, instead of forming droplets, rainwater hits the glass and spreads evenly, running off in a “sheet” and taking the loosened dirt with it, also drying quickly without leaving streaks. If the thought of spending endless hours cleaning windows puts you off building a new conservatory or installing skylights then self-cleaning glass is precisely what you need. View this demonstration video to gain a better understanding of how self-cleaning glass works with the forces of nature to keep your glass cleaner. Please Note : Self Cleaning glass Does not mean you will never have to clean your Rooflight – Skylight. Routine Maintenance of self cleaning glass Normal weather with daylight and occasional rain will keep the coating activated and self-cleaning. Small particles of organic dirt can be observed while they are being broken down by the faint halo around the original dirt spot. Typically the dirt spot and associated halo will disappear in a week or so without any manual intervention. Ideally the coating should be allowed to remove any surface dirt by its own self-cleaning action. If faster cleaning is required then the manual processes described below can be used. Extended dry periods will continue to break down and evaporate organic dirt but will allow an accumulation of inorganic particles to form, particularly in dusty areas such as facing a dirt road or a salted highway in winter. To remove deposits such as dust, salt, or large lumps of bird droppings which can take excessive amounts of time to break down, the glass can be simply hosed down with clean water. Start the action at the top of the window and spray the water back and forth, working downwards towards the bottom of the window. This will flush the dirt away from the clean areas. Allow the glass to dry naturally. No rubbing or squeegee action should be required. The U value (W/m2K) is the thermal transmittance of a building element (wall, roof, floor or window). It includes the thermal resistances of all layers (including air cavities) and surfaces resistances at both surfaces of the element. The surfaces resistances account for both convective and long wave radiation between the element surface and the surroundings. The U value is the heat flow Q (W) through the whole area of the element divided by the total area of the element and temperature difference between external and internal environments. It is, therefore, used in building energy calculations i. SAP, SBEM to estimate the total heat loss through the building fabric.
