Each Roof-Light is supplied with an easy fit, rebated timber kerb, which will be fully encapsulated once installed. The Panotrade roof-light is the only true seamless glass roof-light. Is designed in such a way, that unlike most roof-lights, which have an aluminium kerb, it has no joints anywhere, just a seamless piece of glass. Once fitted, the timber kerb will be fully encapsulated on all sides, so just like the roof joists, it can not be seen, whether you are using a felt or fibre-glass roof covering. 6mm Toughened, Clear Glass, Self Cleaning. 16mm Warm Edge Spacer Bar filled with Argon Gas. 4mm Toughened, Clear, Low-E Soft Coated Glass. Gives a total thickness of 46mm. Once you have trimmed the joists to the correct structural size and have fitted your roofing board, you then build an upstand, which should measure 70mm(W) x at least 80mm(H). To allow water to drain off the top outer panel, we suggest you create a gradient in your upstand of 50mm for every linear 1000mm, (around 5 degrees), run in line with the fall of your roof. This also enables the self cleaning glass agent to work efficiently and to ensure there will be no’pooling’ of water forming in the middle of the skylight. Before bonding the glass skylight into the kerb, a simple water test should be carried out by pouring water on the highest point of the skylight and looking for any pooling as the water runs away. Around the base of the upstand, it is recommended you apply arris rails. These will assist with drainage and prevent pooling of water around the base of the unit. Once your upstand is in place, attach our easy-fit, treated, rebated timber kerb on top, measures 70mm x 70mm square, with a 25mm(D) x 38mm (H) rebate. Your upstand and kerb should now measure 150mm tall. Building regulations require rooflights to be at least 150mm(H) from the finished roof. The stepped skylight is then bonded into the kerb with a good low modulus glazing adhesive silicone. We suggest using at least one tube for every linear metre, applying copious amounts on the top edge and into the rebate area of the wooden kerb. Remove the skylight from its crate and lower into the rebated kerb, applying gentle pressure to ensure the silicone is squeezed out. It is vitally important there are no’pin holes’, where water may ingress. Remember to run a simple water test before bonding, to ensure the gradient / fall in the upstand you’ve built is adequate enough for water/moisture to completely drain off the glass unit. Once the unit is siliconed in, there is no going back to amend this, so please ensure you are completely satisfied before bonding. When covering the roof with fibre glass, (GRP), EPDM rubber sheeting, or a felt based finishing, run along the roof, covering horizontally and then move up vertically along the base of the skylight / arris rails and level to the top of the upstand and kerb. It is important not to overlap the top edge, keep this wood bare for the silicone to be applied later. Once the skylight is placed into position, the wooden up-stand will be totally encapsulated, rendering all framework invisible. Internally, fix a plasterboard stop bead approximately 5mm below the bottom pane of glass. Next, run your plasterboard reveal all around, again rendering all framework invisible. When installed, the external visible glass, (with the black edge border), overhangs the kerb for rain water run off. From within the room, looking up, all you will see is a seamless piece of glass. An installation guide with illustrative pictures will be sent wth your skylight. HOW SELF CLEANING GLASS WORKS. External window cleaning and maintenance has been simplified by the abundance of glass cleaning agents on the market. However, these glass cleaning agents still require sufficient elbow grease to get your windows looking great. The self cleaning Range: A Two Step Cleaning Process. After years of development, the world’s first self-cleaning glass to use a microscopic coating with a unique dual-action. The first stage of the cleaning process is “photo-catalytic”. In this stage the coating reacts with daylight to break down organic dirt. The second stage is “hydrophilic”. Here, instead of forming droplets, rainwater hits the glass and spreads evenly, running off in a “sheet” and taking the loosened dirt with it, also drying quickly without leaving streaks. If the thought of spending endless hours cleaning windows puts you off building a new conservatory or installing skylights then self-cleaning glass is precisely what you need. The U value (W/m2K) is the thermal transmittance of a building element (wall, roof, floor or window). It includes the thermal resistances of all layers (including air cavities) and surfaces resistances at both surfaces of the element. The surfaces resistances account for both convective and long wave radiation between the element surface and the surroundings. The U value is the heat flow Q (W) through the whole area of the element divided by the total area of the element and temperature difference between external and internal environments. It is, therefore, used in building energy calculations i. SAP, SBEM to estimate the total heat loss through the building fabric. Mean you will never have to clean your Panotrade Skylight. Routine Maintenance of self cleaning glass. Normal weather with daylight and occasional rain will keep the coating activated and self-cleaning. Small particles of organic dirt can be observed while they are being broken down by the faint halo around the original dirt spot. Typically the dirt spot and associated halo will disappear in a week or so without any manual intervention. Ideally the coating should be allowed to remove any surface dirt by its own self-cleaning action. If faster cleaning is required then the manual processes described below can be used. Extended dry periods will continue to break down and evaporate organic dirt but will allow an accumulation of inorganic particles to form, particularly in dusty areas such as facing a dirt road or a salted highway in winter. To remove deposits such as dust, salt, or large lumps of bird droppings which can take excessive amounts of time to break down, the glass can be simply hosed down with clean water. Start the action at the top of the window and spray the water back and forth, working downwards towards the bottom of the window. This will flush the dirt away from the clean areas.
